“The Entertainment of Strangers”, 1786-1849, is an exhibit of early American tavern life. The Tavern Room, the Card Room, Tavern Kitchen, Guestrooms and the Ballroom are period rooms that a traveler in the 18th and 19th century would have experienced in their visit through this old town of Simsbury. Interpreted and interactive exhibits were designed to showcase how trips of any distance were measured in days rather than in hours and were experiences of extreme discomfort.
