The tunnels left behind by miners burrowing deep underground in search of copper ore [1705-1750s] became CT's first prison in 1773.

Visitors enter the prison yard through 12 ft tall walls. The brick guardhouse still stands and houses exhibits which are suspended 4 ft x 10 ft panels so as not to disrupt the amazing interior space of the 1770's structure.
