Projects: Museum & Visitor Centers | Butler-McCook House & Main Street History Center, Hartford, CT (Page 1 | Page 2)

It was crucial for us to understand and design to the necessary traffic patterns in this relatively small space so as to not disturb entry, for tours, into the main house and to satisfy code compliance for handicap accessibility.  We collaborated very closely with the architect to design the exhibit to hide the new mechanical systems which had to be placed in the renovated wing of the house. We also designed a lighting system, in tune with the historical integrity of the building, which allowed us to use internal lighting in our custom built, artifact enclosures. Period wallpapers were recreated and fabricated to provide backgrounds for the timeline exhibit. Eighteen different but overlapping personal story lines were used to showcase the history. From concept to completion, the project took about 18 months.
