Projects: Museum & Visitor Centers | Butler-McCook House & Main Street History Center, Hartford, CT (Page 1 | Page 2)

For over 190 years, the Butler-McCook House & Garden was home to four generations of a family who lived and recorded the evolution of Main Street between the American Revolution and the mid-twentieth century. Designed and fabricated by Harrison Jenkins Design, “Witnesses on Main Street” uses the families’ words and experiences to chronicle their neighborhood’s transformation from clapboard dwellings, taverns and artisan shops into a modern enclave of structures housing major financial, industrial and cultural institutions. The center’s keystone exhibit uses interpreted and interactive exhibits, a touch screen video production, living history documentation and many period artifacts to assist in telling the story of this extraordinary family before one enters the equally remarkable 1782 residence.
